God is Bigger than Pain

I spent this morning in Arlington for a funeral of a young pastor. A funeral under these circumstances brings about a great number of questions and a great deal of pain.

The only thing that can bring comfort is knowing that God is bigger than any situation or amount of pain we will ever face.

David knew this truth when we wrote the six short verses of Psalm 13:

How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever?

How long will you hide your face from me?

How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and everyday have sorrow in my heart?

How long will my enemy triumph over me?

Look on me and answer O LORD my God.

Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;

My enemy will say "I have overcome him," and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

But I trust in your unfailing love;

my heart rejoices in your salvation.

I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.

May you know the bigness and the greatness of God.

May you trust in his unfailing love that he pours upon you.

May your heart rejoice in the salvation you hold so dear.

May you sing to the LORD for he truly has been good to you.

Acknowledging the greatness of the God we serve,
