Flee and Draw

Weekly blessing from James 4:7-8,

"May you submit yourself to God. May you flee from the devil and he will flee from you. May you draw near to God and he will draw near to you."

The starting point:May you submit yourself to God. We must order our lives under God's authority.

The command:

Flee from the devil. If we are under God's authority we will willfully reject the devil.

Draw near to God. If we are under God's authority we will make a willful, deliberate, decision to follow him.

The result:

The devil will flee from you. If we resist the devil, he will have no power over us. He was defeated on the cross.

God will draw near to you. Lastly and more importantly, God will draw near to us when we draw near to him. The Epistle of James describes many ways in which we can draw near to God: controlling our tongue, caring for the poor, loving everyone as equals, and prayer to name a few. As we draw near to God we begin to mature and our eyes are continually opened to the things of God. As we draw near to God he moves us from spiritual milk to spiritual meat. Each day that we draw near to God we catch a better glimpse of the greatness of God.

The time is now,
