Fire and Rain

James Taylor had hit song in 1970 with "Fire and Rain", a song that seems to chronicle the ups and downs of life. Though it is only Tuesday, this week has had it's ups and down. I've visited a church family in the hospital only to get a phone call later in the day that my mother was in the hospital. I've had a great conversation with a missionary planting churches in the Northwest only to have a couple very difficult conversations. It's only the beginning of the week, but it has had it's ups and downs.
In the second stanza of "Fire and Rain", Taylor provides the following lyrics:
"Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day."
James Taylor got it right. In the midst of ups and downs, there is only one place to turn. We are all in constant need of the cross. If you are in the midst of heartache, turn to the cross. If you are in the midst of turmoil, turn to the cross. If you are in the midst of fire and rain, turn to the cross. Jesus provides the ability to get through another day.
